ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) spring graduates from several northern New England Colleges will be hiking and canoeing the Great Carrying Place Portage Trail used by Benedict Arnold in 1775. About thirty-five cadets will participate. On May sixth, they will hike from the Kennebec River to Middle Carry Pond and camp at the Arnold Expedition Historical Society Cabin. Sunday, the seventh, they will canoe up Sandy Stream to the bridge and then portage the canoes to West Carry Pond following the AT. From the base of Arnold Point, paddle to the westerly side of West Carry Pond (the Gene and April Hay lot) and then portage to the Long Falls Dam Road following the Storey and Spring Roads. The trek is part of the ROTC requirements to hike a historic military trail.
